Hello and welcome back to my blog! This week we were tasked with creating a 1-2 minute composition by utilising the Triadic Interchange technique. Triadic interchange is where you start with a chord (for example a Cmaj chord, C-E-G), and only change one note by a semitone or tone. Once you have that new chord, copy it and change it again by one note by either a semitone or tone. Keep doing that and you have your composition!
Here is what I came up with: Triadic Interchanges
Personally, I felt this was quite restrictive and _____ to my creativity, however I did find some really interesting chords using this method. I don’t think I would use this in my own creation of works, but could be a good method of generating ideas. Talking to my peers, they enjoyed the composition (as much as you could, it is a pretty bland composition π), and they also liked the chord changes. Some didn’t really fit in within the composition, but resolved themselves with the next chords.
We also experimented with Kontakt Tools, and used the Chords Tool. I picked the Andalusian preset and experimented with that. I liked the vibe it gave off, almost feeling like a noir, detective soundtrack. It also gives you the option to randomise your chords, adding inversions, suspensions, etc. to it.
And here is my chord tool experimentation: Chords Tool
That’s all for now, look forward to writing next week!
