Week 7 – AI Tools and Collab update

Welcome back to week 7! This week with Chiara we used Suno.ai to create idents and jingles for companies. Here are the ones i came up with:

https://suno.com/s/ZKah9D2Caohq4sGj – Apple
https://suno.com/s/HG9kVDgotg6f4npN – McDonalds new jingle contender
https://suno.com/s/fC1NMg2JtRx6fFoN – Amazon drone delivery service ad
https://suno.com/s/vPKZHJiJVVWJcDvi – Hilton hotels new spa zone ad

I think the prompts i associated with the brands came out well, and i could see the brands using this. An Ident is usually short and sharp, about 3-5 secs and should be memorable and usually doesn’t contain lyrics. A jingle usually has lyrics, and can be a bit longer at about 5-10 secs. A lot of the music felt quite generic, especially given that it was within a corporate context, and many of my peers reported that it straight up copied other songs and jingles that already exist. I found using strictly AI quite limiting, but could see how it could be a helpful tool.

I feel overall i didn’t have much control in what i created. Services like Suno promote total creative control over your tracks, but just like with anything there is still limits to what you can do. For example, if you are using strictly natural language and not providing it references, it may not give you the exact result, and it may also never give you the result you want, even if you do all the right things. Tools like Suno are incredibly helpful for ideation and unblocking your creativity, but relying on it solely to create your track from scratch should not be your answer.

Progress report

I have received an email back! Unfortunately, the game designer has decided to change direction and go with something different, and now i am also doing music alongside the sound effects. As of what exactly I’m doing, i could not tell you, as i am still awaiting any form of list of assets for the game rather than being told to go off the references. Hopefully within the next few days I’ll have something. I have also asked for other forms of communication to be established so I can pester ask them for these things.

For my personal project, i have set up my session in reaper, and have started ideating sound effects i may need to record/source, and also finding references for my soundtrack. I am thinking of doing something industrial/cyberpunk/NIN inspired, and then moving to something more orchestral towards the end of the scene.
