Hello and welcome to my last entry for my Audiovision blog. Here I’ll be breaking down each of my projects and talking about the collaboration process and how things went from there.
Kalāmagi (?)
Okay, so this was my first collaboration. Personally, I wouldn’t even call it a collaboration. That may come across as harsh, but going onto the fourth or fifth email waiting for feedback or a snippet of a video is no longer collaboration.
It originally started relatively strong, receiving an email the next day after asking to collaborate. I asked for some basic info and received it all and got more information about what the game was about. I replied to that and received nothing till after the mid sem break, which in where i discovered that they had changed the entire scope of the game, so anything that i might’ve worked on would’ve become obsolete. This goes on for a while and in the end i got one bit of feedback for the music, I’m not entirely sure if they heard the sounds i recorded either.
If i was to do this collaboration again, i think i would try and get their phone number or instagram in each and every email, as even though i did ask, I didn’t get it.
Personal Project (Unfinished)
As i picked up the film (which will be seen as the last project), not much more happened with my personal project due to poor time management on my end juggling my other assignments and life stuff, and then the film which took up more time than i imagined.
If i was to do this again, i would definitely try and organise my time better. I think the sounds for the scenes that i came up with were really good, and I am quite proud of those parts
Gut Feeling – Film Collaboration (sound design and location sound)
Okay, time for the big reveal. This film was what took up most of my time during these last few weeks, as i spent a bit of time gathering sounds, doing some general pre prod and helping out with the location sound for the first day of shooting. Unfortunately, the timeline was a bit skewed for this, and became a big crunch towards the end.
A lot of the work i had done with the dialogue clean up and levelling the sounds to make mixing easier was cast aside, as the directors and editors wanted the final say for the mix. So, unfortunately my name is on the film. I think if we didn’t have such a tight turnaround or had a better rapport earlier, i think we could’ve made something really special1 . You can watch the full film here:
Overall, I think that if i had managed my time better, i could’ve finalised my personal project and made something great. Although the collabs were hard and not ideal to what i envisioned, I know that i did my best, and i am happy with my input. at the end of the day, it’s experience and thats all that matters.
- If the film was also a little better in terms of writing 😬 ↩︎
